In conversation with a coachee recently, they were reflecting on how their thinking has shifted around some of the tasks they need to complete. Previously they would have put them in the administrative box but now they see how important they are to enable a strategic shift which is needed for the organisation to flourish and to deliver vital services to stakeholders.
This conversation helped me to notice I too have had a similar shift in my thinking. Tasks and projects which I would previously describe as boring and added to the admin pile, I now recognize how important they are to the functioning and growth of the business.
An example would be the renewal of the business’ EMCC EQA accreditation for one of our flagship coaching programmes. Running our Practitioner and Senior Practitioner coaching programmes are amongst Rebecca and my favourite things to do. Yet without the renewal that delivery wouldn’t be possible.
I notice I’ve shifted from this being a chore to recognising how much I have enjoyed: working closely with Nic in our team to plan and delivery this project, taking stock of what we have delivered in the past five years, how we’ve enhanced the programme and made changes to further support our delegates complete their qualification. Now we have successfully navigated the renewal process I can genuinely recognize this as a job well done and not just a tick on the to-do list.
It’s got me curious as to what else in my life may benefit from reframing. I hope this has piqued your curiosity too.
